Deborah Stroman, Ph.D., CLU

Professor. Advocate. Connector.

My life has been a wonderful journey of exploration and engagement. From an early age, I can say that I had the seeds of being an enthusiastic educator and entrepreneur. I have always been a lover of books, hearty discussions, teaching, and finding solutions to challenges. I was a captain of the University of Virginia women's basketball team and served as a graduate assistant coach for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Additional coaching and analysis experience includes AAU teams and working as the color analyst for the Tar Heel women for 10 years. I currently provide basketball insights for WRAL The SportsShop (Raleigh) 99.3 FM/96.5 FM, WCHL Chapel Hill-Carrboro 97.9 FM, and the WCHL UNC men's basketball pre-game show. My doctoral (leadership and organizational behavior) studies and experiences have led me to two primary foci: 1) Race & Racism Education and Strategy and, 2) Sport Business.

I founded the Center of Sport Business and Analytics (CSBA) in 2014, which serves as a platform to educate and connect people in this fast-growing industry. Offerings include the Basketball Analytics Summit, LASER, No Shortcuts, and consulting. I've spent the past 16 years teaching at the University of North Carolina in the leadership, sport business, and entrepreneurship domains. More recently, I began teaching at my first home, the University of Virginia. The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy gave me the opportunity to serve. For decades, I've been blessed to instruct and advise incredible students on their life choices and professional pursuits.

In doing this sport-specific work, my goal is to also encourage inclusion and a racial analysis for all persons who desire to make the world a better place. The best ideas truly come from many ideas. The Summit affords me the opportunity to shine a light on those persons who share a similar sentiment. The speakers are bright, kind, and service-minded. We connect and give back because we care. It's that simple. Thanks for being a part of the Summit!
